“The twists and turns of the current job market can be hard to deal with and having the confidence and self-belief to pick yourself up after numerous rejections is hard.”
Ben was made redundant from his Call Centre manager role in June 2020 after the COVID-19 pandemic impacted the business. Continuously being in work since 1998, this had been the longest time Ben had spent unemployed, so was referred to the JETS programme.
Being successful at getting interviews, Ben was losing confidence after he was struggling to get past the final recruitment stages and not being given any feedback.
Together with his employment advisor, they worked on his CV and how it could be tailored to target different roles and employers. Ben also attended workshops dedicated to interview skills with Futures, one of our delivery partners. These workshops concentrated on different interview methods and how to enhance his CV. Ben felt so much more confident after these sessions.
Ben was recommended for a role at a distribution centre which was quite different to the roles that he had been in before, but it suited his needs perfectly. His application and interview were successful and he is already enjoying the job, gaining experience and doing something different.
With a reliable income and a good work ethic, Ben is now in the running for a management position, taking his career in a new direction that he hadn’t previously considered.
Ben was very pleased with the support received from Shaw Trust, saying:
“With the help of Shaw Trust and my advisor, who provided continuous support and encouragement, I eventually secured a role which led to my current position and I can honestly say, it’s a job I love!”
Ben also goes on to offer advice to all others seeking employment:
“Remember, you are not alone. My advice to anyone looking for a job at the moment is be open to change and be flexible. Believing in yourself and having the right mindset to keep going will help you stay on track and persevere through these tough times.”
Congratulations Ben. We wish you all the luck in your new career.
