“I can’t thank Karen enough for the help she has given me to start turning my life around.”
Struggling with his mental health, David* was neglecting his care, struggling to cope with all aspects of his life and had even considered suicide.
Support from expert volunteers working with Shaw Trust have been instrumental in David being able to implement changes into each day. Online sessions and workshops on subjects such as Nutrition, Managing Anxiety, Mindfulness and Gentle Movement and art sessions have helped David make those all-important first steps towards employment.
Finding the sessions so useful, David even requested the slides and has been able to “break long standing negative thoughts” around his health and food.
In his own words, David has told us “The nutrition course has been transformational for me. It has helped me change some very entrenched and unhealthy eating habits that I now realise played a part in causing and prolonging my depression and lack of energy. Thanks to Karen I was encouraged and inspired to make the change to a healthier diet and am thoroughly enjoying the change. I have surprised myself with what I’m capable of cooking for myself with fresh foods, herbs and spices.
Karen’s small steps, non-judgmental approach was perfect to help me make the changes I needed to make to my diet.”
We thank all of our Volunteers for the time that they dedicate to Shaw Trust and this story shows the value of the impact they have.
