After building a great relationship with Premier Inn, Lydia, Employer Engagement Manager on our Job Entry Targeted Support (JETS) programme, was given the opportunity to refer participants for three separate receptionist roles in three separate hotels in the region.
The job market in this industry was extremely competitive even before the pandemic, with the Premier Inn hotels being highly desirable places to work.
Alex Barry, Multi Site Manager at the Premier Inn said: “The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on our industry has been huge and the demand for any of our vacancies in a coastal town like Great Yarmouth has been unprecedented.”
With restrictions slowly being lifted, opportunities for receptionists became available and three JETS participants were successful at getting those roles. One of these participants was Angel, who lacked confidence after previous knock backs but had passion, enthusiasm and suitable experience.
Angel was keen to accept the support offered by the JETS programme after being unemployed for a long period of time. She now says: “working with Shaw Trust has helped me so much and is one of the best decisions I’ve made as I wouldn’t be in the position I am in now. I have got a job that really excites me and is something I’ve always wanted to do. I finally feel I am good enough and that this is what I should be doing, I feel so much more confident with everyday life and myself.”
Alex Barry is also happy with his new recruits and told us: “Angel came from the JETS programme enthusiastic, well prepared and stood out as demonstrating our company values of being genuine, confident and committed from the start of the recruitment process. Despite having been out of work due to the pandemic, she has quickly adapted to being back in work and is already becoming a well established member of the team.”
Massive congratulations to the participants and JETS team on this result.
Thank you to the Premier Inn for their continued support and good luck to all three of you in your new roles!
