As we celebrate National Apprenticeship Week 2022, we thought it would be good to introduce you to some current apprentices here at Shaw Trust!
Emily, Employment Advisor Apprentice
Recognising Emily’s potential during an interview, an Apprenticeship role was created especially for her!
Six months in and Emily is reaping the benefits and well on her way for a career in Employability.
Emily has said “The support I have had from my teaching assessor, as well as my team at Work to Recovery Birmingham and Solihull, has been exceptional and I felt like a valued member of the team from the outset. I have found that the most useful aspect of doing my apprenticeship is the support available and the encouragement and feedback I have had from all involved. I would recommend an apprenticeship with Shaw Trust to anyone who wants to create a rewarding career and wants to upskill whilst working for an exceptionally supportive company.”
Christie, Apprentice Administrator Coordinator
After working in Early Years for 10 years, Christie decided she wanted a change and to push herself to learn something new. Having always been keen and enthusiastic about administrative jobs and tasks she found it difficult to get her ‘foot in the door’ due to a lack of experience.
Christie admits, “I had always thought that Apprenticeships were aimed at younger people who had just finished secondary school or college, however after contacting the recruiting manager to find out more information, it was the perfect opportunity for me to change my career path and learn something new, whilst also working in a person centred organisation! I was so pleased to get the job!
Three months in and Christie is already learning so much for her current role and knowledge that she will take with her into the future.
Talking about the support she has received, Christie says “The support from Ixion who conduct the apprenticeship has been invaluable, and I have a real sense that everyone, from your colleagues, assessor, and line manager, right up to the CEO, want to see you achieve and progress through Shaw Trust.
Joining Shaw Trust was a huge change in my career, but I could not have chosen a better organisation to join! I would definitely recommend Shaw Trust Apprenticeships to anyone looking to learn something new, whilst also working for a supportive, inclusive and collaborative organisation.”
Abby, Inclusive Employment Consultant Apprentice
Abby was offered an Apprenticeship at acceptance stage to support her to gain the sufficient experience for the full Inclusive Employment Consultant #Job.
Taking on a Marketing style Apprenticeship has allowed Abby to broaden her horizons and gain on-the-job skills.
Asking Abby what she is enjoying about her Apprenticeship, she said “I enjoy learning about the materials that are out there to support marketing drives, as well as the skill that is involved in perfecting this and aligning this to an organisation’s values and reputation. I would recommend pursuing an apprenticeship that could either enhance your skills or improve your performance within your current role.”
