Overcoming mental health challenges and raising her daughter, Vicky had never had a job before joining the Work and Health Programme in November 2020. Wanting to pursue a career in the care industry, the first tasks would include creating a CV from scratch and develop that all-important action plan.
With no employment history, her advisor concentrated on all the skills Vicky has from parenting and her general life experience. Papworth Trust, one of our delivery partners, supported on this, as well as Vicky attending a workshop with them to get an insight into the care sector and help her find roles to apply for.
Vicky undertook some online short courses with us, focussing on providing care and what would be expected from her in that type of role.
Needing to gain and maintain confidence in herself, a large part of the review sessions with her employment advisor concentrated on Vicky’s strengths and what she has to offer. Building in confidence, Vicky applied for a role in February 2021, completed some interview preparation and went on to be offered a full time role as a Day Care Assistant in a supported living accommodation for the elderly.
After suitable references, DBS checks and the confidence to renegotiate the contract to suit her childcare needs, Vicky started her first ever job in April 2021.
Huge congratulations, Vicky, and good luck with your new role and your future career!
