As a Volunteer Customer Service Assistant, you will help ensure Shaw Trust customers receive a warm welcome in our shop.  

You will use your customer service skills to support the shop management team and help Shaw Trust deliver a successful community business, that raises much-needed funds for the charity. As part of your role, you will operate the till, replenish stock, price garments and may get involved in creating eye catching window displays.

Key tasks

In this role, you will provide comprehensive support to our retail operations. This includes assisting customers and addressing their enquiries, as well as onboarding, training, and mentoring retail assistant volunteers, alongside enrolling customers in Shaw Trust’s loyalty card programme (part of our Gift Aid scheme).

You are also responsible for:

  • Merchandise management.
  • Steaming, pricing, and stock preparation.
  • Managing the receipt of stock donations from the public.
  • Conducting regular stocktakes.
  • Ensuring the shop floor remains well-stocked and displays are organised.
  • Contributing to our online presence by curating and selecting suitable items for sale on Shaw Trust eBay.
  • Handling packaging and overseeing the shipping process.

What are we asking for?

  • Typically, we request about four hours per week from our volunteers, but we are open to flexibility based on your availability.

  • Someone who is eager to acquire new skills and knowledge.

  • Volunteers must be aged 14+.

Volunteer hours

Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and weekends, no minimum hours. There is flexibility around the start and finish times, volunteers generally volunteer for either a morning or afternoon shift.
